Discover the emotional and physical benefits of group singing and a new way to connect through music at Gilda’s Club Chicago

When was the last time you sang—really sang? Not just a quiet hum or a quick chorus in the car, but a full, heart-open moment of song. Whether you’re a seasoned vocalist or someone who only sings in the shower, singing together has a surprising ability to heal, uplift, and connect us.
At Gilda’s Club Chicago, we believe in the power of creativity and community. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce a brand-new weekly program designed to help you tap into the many benefits of music—no experience required.
Introducing: Jammin’ with Gilda
Beginning Tuesday, June 3, join us for a joyful new music experience.
Tuesdays | 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Lurie Cancer Center at Northwestern Memorial Galter Pavilion
675 North St. Clair Street | 17th Floor Conference Room
Jammin’ with Gilda is a little bit of everything for the music lover. Each week, we’ll explore different styles and genres, learn songs together, and discuss the stories and history behind the music. You don’t need any singing experience to participate—just a willingness to listen, engage, or sing along at your own pace. Bring a snack, an open mind, and enjoy a lunchtime jam session with the Gilda’s Club community.
Why Group Singing Matters
More than just a fun activity, singing in a group offers meaningful emotional and physical benefits:
- Reduces Stress
Singing changes the way we breathe. Deeper inhales and longer exhales calm the nervous system, lower the heart rate, and help reduce stress. - Fosters Connection and Belonging
Singing together releases oxytocin, a neurochemical that promotes bonding and trust. It creates a sense of unity, similar to being part of a team or close-knit group. - Supports Memory and Focus
Engaging with music through singing activates multiple areas of the brain and can strengthen memory and cognitive function. - Offers Emotional Release
Research shows that singing in a group can ease emotional pain and support those navigating grief. Music helps process feelings that can be hard to put into words. - Improves Lung Function
Singing strengthens respiratory muscles and supports deep, controlled breathing—an added benefit for those managing health challenges or in recovery. - Relieves Pain Naturally
Group singing can trigger the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. This not only elevates mood but can also decrease the perception of physical pain.
Jammin’ with Gilda is about more than music. It’s about connection, expression, and finding joy in the moment. Whether you love to sing or simply enjoy being around music, this welcoming weekly session offers something for everyone.
At Gilda’s Club Chicago, we believe healing happens in community. Come as you are—and let the music move you.
Because sometimes, the best medicine is a melody shared with others.
