What’s your favorite memory of working at Gilda’s Club?
I was at an event and a gentleman was speaking to the group about the impact Gilda’s Club had on his life. His wife was a member of a support group and after her passing, he had an art piece commissioned to go in the room where her support group was held. I had viewed this art piece as my sign to accept the job at Gilda’s Club. When I was interviewing for my position at Gilda’s Club, we were sitting in the room with the art piece. Bradford was telling the story of the art, and I had a goosebumps moment and knew that was where I needed to be. Coming from a background in art, it was my sign that I could find a combination of my passions at Gilda’s. I told the gentleman this story and how much the piece means to me. We were both crying and hugging. It was a great moment where we were experiencing the mission and the impact together.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
Where to start? I love meeting our members and our supporters and hearing why they are involved with Gilda’s Club Chicago. Everyone that comes through our red door has a story to tell. I never know if that story will make me laugh or cry or mostly both, but what I do know is that the stories will be powerful, and I feel so honored that these stories are shared with me.
What’s your go-to coffee order (or favorite drink to start the day)?
Coffee. Black. Hot. If I’m feely fancy, a honey lavender latte with coconut milk.
Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what is it?
I don’t know. It is hidden that well.
What’s a TV show, movie, or book you could rewatch or reread over and over?
I can watch Schitt’s Creek and Parks and Recreation over and over again. Each year I like to get in cozy autumn vibes and reread Practical Magic.
If someone walked into the office, what is the topic of conversation you are leading?
Gilda’s related, I am talking all about how amazing it is to be on Team Gilda or the Associate Board. Non-Gilda’s related, I want to know what book you are reading, your favorite podcasts, or the latest docuseries you are binging.
It’s lunch time, what are you eating?
Veggie melt with tots and mango habanero sauce from O’Leary’s or a dense bean salad.
What’s your most memorable travel experience or dream destination?
On my honeymoon, we were walking to the ferry dock on a remote island. There was no way we were going to make it in time. I woman in a pick up truck pulled over. She had her husband get out and had us get in the car, so she could get us to the ferry on time. We told her we were on our honeymoon. She had a bottle of wine in her car that she gave us as a wedding gift and she gave me lotion for my sunburn. We tried to pay her, but she would not accept it. It was a great reminder of the good in the world.
What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long day?
I started doing dance parties with my kids to get their extra energy out at the end of the day. As an added bonus, I found that it is great way for adults to unwind and connect with family. Something can also be said for a good tv binge session. while doing a craft or a puzzle.
Do you have pets? What are their names/ages?
I have a cat named Dexter, a dog named Sophia, and a shrimp named Carl.
If you could pick up a new skill or hobby instantly, what would it be?
I would love to play a musical instrument.
What’s the best concert or live event you’ve ever attended?
Taylor Swift Eras tour!!!!
What’s one thing on your bucket list you’re determined to check off?
I really want to visit every continent.
What’s your favorite Chicago neighborhood or burb?
Chicago has so many great neighborhoods — I can’t choose just one.
Are you a life-long Chicagoan or are you a transplant? If a transplant, form where?
Sort of life-long Chicagoan. I grew up in the burbs and immediately moved to the city after college.
