Yang Sheng: The East Asian Medicine Approach to Cultivating Health and Longevity
In Asian philosophy, a person’s life is sustained by three “treasures": jing (“essence”), qi (“vital breath”), and shen (“spirit”). Every person is born with jing and qi, both of which disperse with age when not cared for. The shen, unlike jing and qi, is not allotted at birth, but should be cultivated throughout life in order to balance the other two treasures. This talk will present an introductory explanation of the ways that self-care, influenced by Asian philosophy, helps to balance the three treasures that maintain life's health, healing, and vitality.
